Bird-flu challenge: An avian-flu outbreak could kill millions. Will we have a vaccine in time to stop it?
Article Abstract:
The scientists at the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. have developed a vaccine to combat the H5N1 virus, which is a human variant of the bird-flu virus. The trials on humans will begin in 2005 but even after the trials, the vaccine will have to be produced in large quantities, which is a difficult task, and hence many health experts feel that public-awareness campaigns should be used for controlling the virus.
