Leeson, a trader with the Singapore office of Barings PLC, allegedly lost more than $1 billion in high-risk derivatives transactions. He was arrested in Germany, and charged with foregery. However, there is some evidence that senior Barings officials knew about his trading strategy.

No more Mr. Nice Guy: the OSC cracks down on Gordon Capital

The OSC rejected a settlement with the securities firm of Gordon Capital Corp that would have fined the firm $4 million and suspended chmn James Connacher for 45 days. The OSC decided to impose stiffer penalties on Gordon Capital for their role in questionable trading strategies.
