CAE looking to hire 700 software engineers
Article Abstract:
CAE Inc., a Toronto, Ontario-based aerospace company, is hiring 700 software engineers to cope with the record demand for its line of airplane training simulators. The hirees will fill in vacancies at CAE's facility in Montreal, Quebec. Software engineers are in such short supply recently, causing CAE delays in the delivery of its C$15-million simulators around the world. CAE may also be robbed off its chance to win upcoming multimillion-dollar simulator deals from Europe for the Tornado and Eurofighter jet fighters, if it is unable to get enough engineers and boost its production. CAE is looking for software engineers who can design simulator computer systems' basic structure and make it useful to complex aerospace uses.

Air Canada forecasts loss
Article Abstract:
Air Canada, a Montreal, Quebec-based airline, projects losses in 1998 due to the recent pilots' strike and the weakening of the global airline industry. Financial analysts reportedly anticipated such loss forecast as they have been projecting a sharp downfall in the world airline market following two years of growth. It is unlikely that Air Canada will downsize its workforce because of present condition. However, the airline intends to push through with its plan of slashing 750 temporary summer jobs on October 1998. The firm will also discontinue two U.S. routes, temporarily inactivate three of its nine Boeing 747 jets and consider the sale of its 25 DC-9s.
