Cogeco to offer cheaper phone service
Article Abstract:
Cogeco Cable Inc. CEO Louis Audet has announced his company will be ready to offer its customers within the densely populated corridor between Rimouski, Quebec, and Windsor, Ontario, with flat-rate local and long-distance phone service by late 1999. The company said the less expensive local and long-distance service will be distributed to its 800,000 cable subscribers in that corridor via its new Internet protocol (IP) technology. Cogeco said using IP technology to connect each customer to its network would cost only C$600 instead of C$1,200 when using other technologies that cable firms have been testing to provide phone service.
