Cadillac, Cambridge float bonds

Cambridge Shopping Centres Ltd. of Toronto, CA, and Cadillac Fairview Corp. of Toronto, have floated first-mortgage bonds valued at C$55 million. The 15-year, 6.62% bonds are secured against the 413,000-sq-ft Cataraqui Town Centre in Kingston in Canada. The Cataraqui Town Centre is jointly owned by Cambridge and Cadillac Fairview. Proceeds from the floated bonds will be utilized to repay the shopping center's existing financing worth C$25 million and to financially support the shopping center's renovation and broadening worth C$34 million.

Britain's P&O puts Canadian shopping centre holdings on block

Tranportation company Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co of London, UK, has announced that it is selling its eight shopping centers in Canada. The divestment is part of its strategy to sell GBP2 billion ($4.74 billion) worth of assets. The eight regional centers, including the flagship Guildford Mall in Survey, British Columbia, are expected to fetch around C$800 million based on an average C$250/ft for the 3.3 million-sq- ft portfolio.

Shopping malls evolve into entertainment centres
