Two more raters go negative on Sun Life

Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada's outlook was downgraded from 'stable' to 'negative' by two rating agencies, New York, NY-based Moody's Investors Service Inc and Chicago, IL-based Duff and Phelps Credit Rating Co. The rating agencies changed thier view after the insurance company reported an unexpected weak financial results for the second quarter of 1999. The insurer's outlook may have been downgraded, but the two rating agencies retained the insurer's financial strength rating.

Money-losing GAN Canada up for sale
Article Abstract:
Gan Canada Group, based in Burlington, Ontario, will be sold by French property and casualty insurer GAN Groupe. Sources said Canadian unit will not cost more than book value, estimated at C$100 million to $150 million. Possible buyers include the Dutch-owned ING Canada, British-owned CGU Insurance Co of Canada and French-owned AXA Insurance (Canada). The Canadian unit of Netherlands-based ABN Amro NV.
