Demanding justice: why Edgar Bronfman took on the Swiss banks

Bronfman, Seagram heir and president of the World Jewish Congress, confronted the Swiss Bankers Assoc in Sep 1995 over World War II Jewish bank accounts. He refused to accept a meager settlement, and pressed for an independent audit. The banks eventually agreed to a $6.4 billion settlement.

The hidden killers: Canada steps up the fight for a global ban on land mines
Article Abstract:
Canada has become an international leader in an effort to ban the production and use of land mines. Representatives of 39 countries that support the ban have been invited to meet in Canada in Sep 1996. Hidden land mines kill or injure an estimated 20,000 people annually in 64 countries.
