Canada's 36th yearly conference of provincial premiers, held in St, John's, Newfoundland in late summer 1995, featured a debate between Quebec's Jacques Parizeau and his colleagues about the potential impact of sovereignty in Quebec. The premiers also failed to reach a consensus about social policy.

Some people are supporting laws for regulating and censoring the Internet because of an increase in crimes such as obscenity and information theft. Canada is considering these laws, even though most Internet crimes have occurred in the US. The enforcement of such laws is difficult.
