Digital Commerce

Article Abstract:

The Internet is fast becoming a commercial selling tool for business transactions worldwide, generating as much as $43 bil in 1998, which is expected to rise to $1.3 tril by 2003. Businesses use the Internet to order supplies and parts, make shipping arrangements, and receive services. Consumers are also using this medium to buy goods and services. Much of the activity on the Internet is posing new challenges for regulators who must set new rules and come up with a taxing solution.

Managing Managed Care

Article Abstract:

Federal regulatory reforms are being considered to limit health insurers' power to make critical decisions on medical care. The supporters of managed care charge that the cost of health coverage would go up if the proposals are adopted. Issues include whether laws should be passed to take decision-making power away from insurers, whether rationing of health care would result, and whether performance ratings or guidelines should be applied to physicians and hospitals.
