Many Canadians purchased vanishing-premium life insurance policies during the mid-1980s, with the promise that the premiums would cease after a set number of years. However, poor investment returns negated many of these options. Class actions lawsuits have been filed against several firms.

Employment contracts are not necessary for most employees, other than senior executives, because Canadian law usually provides employees more rights than most employment contracts. Advice is provided to help executives evaluate an employment contract.
