Does biology play a dominant role in determining human behavior?
Article Abstract:
Biology is the basis of investigation into the source of universal human traits, among them capacity for language, attraction of one sex for the other, the bond of a mother and child, willingness of males to participate in warfare, facial expressions. Nature is getting more credit and nurture is getting less, as the public considers nature/nurture issues. Opponents suggest that there would be no basis for demanding behavior that society accepts if everything could be blamed on genes and that efforts to link a gene to a trait may be absurd unless a distinct gene is involved.

Biology and behavior
Article Abstract:
Some researchers are looking for a genetic basis for common, everyday behaviors, including sexuality, violence and risk-taking. There is an ongoing debate, sometimes a heated one, over how much biology controls what a person does and whether society relies too much on science. Some feel the importance of social/economic conditions and life in the home is downplayed too much. Policy-makers, meanwhile, try to figure out what the social ramifications might be and to set down rules related to genetic testing and privacy.

Sleep deprivation: what's keeping Americans up at night?
Article Abstract:
Millions of Americans feel tired and lethargic everyday because they do not get enough sleep. Studies indicate that an average person needs at least eight to nine hours of sleep every night, but most Americans only get seven. The effects of sleep deprivation are seen in lost worker productivity, transportation accidents caused by fatigue, health problems, and lower grades and behavioral problems in schools.
