Downsizing cities: to make cities work better, make them smaller

Article Abstract:

One way to combat the problems caused by depopulation and urban blight in some older manufacturing cities is to consolidate residential neighborhoods in the more viable areas of the city. Vacated land could be rezoned for zero occupancy and divested from municipal control and responsibility.

The architecture of the new concert hall at Tanglewood is inspired by the designs of the world's best halls. Seiji Ozawa Hall belongs to the Boston Symphony Orchestra and is located at its rural summer facility in western Massachusetts for use as a recording studio and concert venue.

New York City's Museum of Modern Art may be falling prey to trendiness in its attempt to draw viewers. The museum's history of showing progressive architecture and design could be compromised. A design competition and other topics are discussed.
