Article Abstract:
General Motors has reported that it will offer an online car-shopping service by 1999. The new service will allow customers to search on vehicle specifications, options, and dealer inventories as well as to negotiate with car dealers through the Internet. The site at www.gmbuypower.com also enables shoppers to compare General Motor vehicles with other auto brands, according to Ann Blakney, consumer and marketing director for General Motors. The service attracted 800 Internet users to purchase cars online during its 10-month trial in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Oregon.
