GST puts a sting in the swing

The Australian public in 1998 is apprehensive about the Goods and Services Tax (GST). Many small businesses in Geelong, Bendigo, and Ballarat fear GST because many of them do not understand it. The public wants to know about the bureaucracy involved, but GST abolishes five kinds of taxes to create one. Surveys conducted by the Council of Small Business Organizations indicate that almost 90% of small businesses the building industry favor the GST.

Some of Melbourne's most famous powerbrokers and corporate leaders have left their positions because of age, retirement, or corporate downsizing.
