Germany's policy
Article Abstract:
Germany has adopted a liberal immigrant policy which largely stemmed from the desire to amend for past Nazi atrocities. Germany created the Gastarbeiter, or guestworker, program which welcomed alien workers to meet the high demands in labor supply. So far, Germany has the most lenient regulations on political refugees seeking asylum in Western Europe. However, German citizens are feeling the financial burden brought on by the influx of foreigners. Meanwhile, right-wing extremists have taken political advantage andblamed the slump of German economy on foreign workers.

Politics vs. economics
Article Abstract:
The distinction between political refugees and economic migrants is becoming difficult to determine. As more people flee their strife-torn homelands and others escape poverty, the government is finding itself in a quandary. Immigration policy is partial to refugees from communist countries and aliens from friendly nations who are seeking asylum have less chances of having their stay legalized. This raises the question of discrimination that pits the government against rights advocates who offer sanctuary to those with legitimate grievances.

At issue: should the Unites States open its borders to more immigrants?
Article Abstract:
The issue of US immigration policy can be divided into whether the present government policy is too lax or too strict. One argument is that the regulations against migrants are unfair because the US' greatest resource is the skills and talents of its immigrants who contribute to national development. However, another assertion is that the present policies are detrimental to the US and to other countries because it allows both unfair employment competition against citizens and brain drain in the origin nations.
