Authorities destroyed 16 fields of marijuana plants on land owned by the Mohawk Indians in Kanesatake, Quebec in Jul 1995. Newly-elected chief James Gabriel supported the operation. Some members of the tribe alleged that Grand Chief Jerry Peltier knew about the fields and did nothing.

Clark's vociferous criticism of Ottawa's handling of the Pacific salmon crisis achieved his aims. The Ottawa and Victoria agreed to review their responsibilities in Pacific salmon fisheries management rather than cut the West Coast salmon fleet by half as was originally proposed.
