WorldPay, a UK online security solution provider, predicts that online sales will do better in Hong Kong in 2001. In addition, it believes that more and more small and medium sized traditional businesses would choose to go online to expand through e-commerce. The biggest problem plaguing the e-commerce sector is lack of customer service facilities. WorldPay will open an office in Hong Kong and Singapore in March.

HONG KONG: WORKING TEAM TO FIGHT COMPUTER CRIMES
Article Abstract:
The police force would set up a special working team "The Technology Crime Division" to fight against computer hackers and crimes in Hong Kong. The number of hacking cases rose to 224 in the first nine months of 2000 from 13 cases in 1998. The number of the local Internet users increased by 3 times in the past 2 years.

CHINA: COPYRIGHT LAWS TO COVER INTERNET
Article Abstract:
Starting from 21 December 2000, the Internet will be covered under the copyright laws and regulations in China in order to prevent the increasing pilferage of web site content. This was possible with an approval granted by the Supreme People's Court of China for landmark ruling on 21 December 2000.
