Medical mistakes 8th top killer
Article Abstract:
The Institute of Medicine has urged Congress to institute measures to lessen the incidence of medical errors which cause deaths from 44,000 to 98,000 annually. The errors, which cost $8.8 billion annually, are attributed mostly to systems failures and not true human error. Specifically, the Institute called on Congress to create a national center to track errors and promote research. It also suggested the implementation of compulsory and voluntary nationwide error reporting systems.

Casket cartel adds to high cost of dying
Article Abstract:
State licensing laws have indadvertently created government-protected funeral industry cartels that are making it considerably expensive for any citizen to die. These laws are frequently enacted at the behest of a funeral industry intent on protecting its high profit margins. However, they have created barriers to competition that has, since 1994, made the cost of dying increase three times in comparison to the cost of living.
