Canadian health officials believe that the various forms of hepatitis contracted over the last 30 years will begin to have widespread effects on the general health and could overwhelm the country's healthcare system. Cirrhosis and liver cancer cases are expected to skyrocket.

Closing in on a cure: antibiotics eradicate almost all ulcers

Physicians used to believe that stomach ulcers were caused by excessive acid, but several recent studies have found evidence that the presence of the bacterium Helicobacter pylori is linked with most ulcer cases. Antibiotics can usually cure the condition within two weeks.
