How fusion works
Article Abstract:
Nuclear fusion energy works with the same principle as the nuclear reactions in the sun. Initial obstacles met by scientists is the problem of containing matter at such high temperatures. Basically, energy that can be used to emit electricity is garnered by fusing hydrogen nuclei. This would require a fusion reactor of advanced technology that scientists have yet to develop. So far, the Russian magnetic containers called tokamaks are the closest devices to be invented. Another method which requires the use of lasers is called inertial confinement, but this needs further research work.

Should the United States abandon efforts to develop commercial fusion power?
Article Abstract:
Development of nuclear fusion energy requires a long term research and a huge amount of federal funding. The wisdom of pursuing nuclear fusion research is being questioned in the light of escalating social problems that lack funding. The success of nuclear fusion research is doubtful since government support, on which it is dependent, has been inconsistent. However, fusion energy may be the key to ensure the waveringstatus of the US as a global leader. Moreover, the pursuit of an environmentally sound and practical energy source stands as a moral obligation the US must fulfill.

Nuclear fusion
Article Abstract:
Nuclear fusion is a tremendous and cost-effective source of energy. Moreover, nuclear fusion does not emit pollutants to the environment and it utilizes hydrogen which can be taken from water. Billions of dollars have already been spent on nuclear fusion research and development, yet physicists and scientists are a long way from producing aneffective fusion power reactor. Progress is further impeded by the indifferent support of US government. Although creating an international pool of researchers have financial advantages, it may be outweighed by its disadvantages.
