Hudson's Bay launching Outfitters with high hopes
Article Abstract:
Hudson's Bay Co. is opening an Outfitters store in Toronto, Canada, in three weeks. The concept store, which will sell outdoor goods that range from leather jackets to canoes, is designed to attract wealthy shoppers. The success of the concept in Canada will pave the way for stores in Asia and the US. Bob Brunini, general manager, said that the Outfitters concept is based on an outdoor lifestyle. He said that the company's strategy is to make Outfitters stores a shop for leisure and weekend wear as well as a store for casual home furnishing. The company's other strategy is to convince other retailers to carry Outfitters' signature products such as a C$700 leather bomber jacket.

Hudson's Bay to reap another kind of reward from loyalty programs
Article Abstract:
Hudson's Bay Co., a department store chain headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, intends to establish loyalty reward programs in the US as well as in the Asian region. The rewards program, which will be patterned after the company's highly-popular Zellers Club Z loyalty program, is expected to raise additional funds for the operation of the Club Z. The move reflects the efforts of the firm to enhance its presence in the customer loyalty program industry, according to Douglas Ajram, general manager of loyalty programs at the retail company.

No more outfitters stores planned by bay
Article Abstract:
Hudson's Bay Co has announced that it is cancelling its planned expansion of Outfitters concept stores. The company announced in the fall of 1998 that it would open up to 10 Outfitters outlets across Canada, and eventually in Asia and in the US. However, poor sales at its first and only outlet in Toronto prompted the company to change its plans. The Outfitters concept was launched to cash in on the 328-yr heritage of Hudson's Bay. ;
