Insurance fraud: will a new crackdown reduce the losses?
Article Abstract:
Insurance fraud is the second greatest economic crime in the US, and new efforts to crack down on it occur in the face of its increase. In 1994, losses were estimated at $80 billion by the Coalition Against Insurance Fraud, but others' totals reach $120 billion annually. The Coalition has a model fraud statute which defines the crime, often makes it a felony and facilitates civil remedies. Other crackdown efforts include state fraud bureaus, computer uses, FBI involvement and federal statutes.

Community policing
Article Abstract:
Community policing is being implemented by about 400 citiesin the US to battle the skyrocketing crime rate. One significant feature of community policing is the bond it tries to form between police officials and neighborhood residents. Although community policing often meets initial skepticism from police officers and other law enforcers, most experts believe that community policing can complement traditional policing. Moreover, it does not necessarily have to be more expensive.

Repetitive stress injuries: are they really a serious health threat?
Article Abstract:
The debate over the true causes of what are known as repetitive stress injuries (RSI) increased as federal regulators considered adopting work safety rules to address the issue. Many politicians and businesses claim that RSIs are often not caused by work and are used to take advantage of existing labor laws by unscrupulous employees. Labor unions and many workers claim that ergonomics should be taken seriously, as preventing RSIs would save everyone money in the long run.
