Liberation movements

Article Abstract:

In the mid 1960s college campuses began to emerge as the centers of a publicly visible gay-liberation movement with the Mattachine Society being the first gay-rights organization in 1948 formed by Harry Hay. Gay right advocates state that more than 400 campuses with gay student organizations had formed by the 1990s but only few schools had formal policies to protect gay and lesbian students and the faculty members from discriminatory treatment.
