Ontario's Progressive Conservative government is studying the privatization of alcoholic beverage sales, which are currently governed by the province's Liquor Control Board. Some producers of alcoholic beverages, such as small winemaking operations, are concerned about the proposed privatization.

It is likely that Canadian banks will go through some mergers and acquisitions in an effort to stay globally-competitive. Canadian Bankers Assoc Pres Helen Sinclair believes that large banks are usually more efficient, and the easiest way to expand is through acquisitions.
