Intel earnings reboot PC industry
Article Abstract:
Intel Corp.'s reported profit of $2 billion for the first quarter of 1999, a 57% improvement from 1998 figures, has brought reassurance to the semiconductor industry's continued profitability. The Santa Clara, CA-based company, whose total revenue for 1999's first quarter rose to $7.1 billion, credits the strong performance of its Pentium III chips and the new Celeron microprocessors. Intel's CEO, Craig Barrett, also attributed the firm's growth to cost-cutting measures employed by the company.
