Man's domain
Article Abstract:
Women serving in the US military have played a traditionally subordinate role to that of men. The very nature of military service has created a mind set which prevents women from undertaking roles other than that of non-combat support duty. However, historical precedents exist, for there have been cases of women disguising themselves as men in order to assume combat assignments. The US military will certainly have to reconsider many of its centuries-old biases towards women in the armed services.

Women's new status
Article Abstract:
The US military is finally opening its doors to the inclusion of women in the military armed services. Women have proved to be an asset to the military given their ability to outperform men in some functions. Men failed to perform as well as women in roles previously held by them. This has been attributed to the fact that women have been noted to have far superior education and higher test scores than men.

The combat question
Article Abstract:
The barriers that prevent women from serving in combat duty are finally eroding. The outstanding performance of women during the Persian Gulf War has made the public and military authorities consider the merits of allowing women to serve in actual combat. Some military experts argue that the realities of modern day high technology warfare have reduced the need for physical prowess in a combat soldier.
