Article Abstract:
There are state and federal laws in the US which safeguard an individual from discrimination based on marital status. These laws grant an individual the opportunity to be provided with benefits which were once exclusively provided to married couples. An example of such was the Atkisson vs Kern Housing Authority case, this involved the granting of low-income low housing to a divorced mother who previously was denied access to the said housing project. In the case of Braschi vs Stahl Associates Co., a homosexual man was provided with a stay of eviction, since he was the legal spouse of his deceased homosexual partner.
