Philip Morris's sale of Kraft Foods' marshmallow and caramel operations to an anonymous group of investors is an indication that the mid-1990s wave of acquisition activity is spinning out of control. Several other mergers are described, including Anderson Exploration's effort to acquire Home Oil Ltd.

The debt beats
Article Abstract:
Rapidly increasing Canadian provincial debt has reached a point where it may no longer be sustainable. Since early 1991, total provincial debt has accumulated to in excess of $150 billion, with a combined deficit of around $23 billion. The debt may soon adversely affect provincial borrowing.
