More turbulence ahead
Article Abstract:
The vulnerability of Ansett Australia Airlines to the Asian financial crisis forces its chairman to be prepared to change plans on short notice. Rod Eddington was brought to Australia in early 1997 to take charge of the flagging group and make it profitable. He was managing director in Hong Kong of Cathay Pacific. Ansett has trimmed services to Malaysia and stopped service to South Korea and might but back elsewhere. Strategic alliances are important under those circumstances, and Ansett has one with Air New Zealand. The airline is working closely with United Airlines and Singapore Airlines, too.
