Canada Life gets go-ahead for public offering

Canada Life Assurance Co, a Toronto, Canada-based mutual life insurer, has received approval from policy holders to proceed with an initial public offering in Oct 1999. Majority of policy holders voted to own shares in the new public company, while the rest decided to take cash. As a public company, Canada Life will be able to compete in the current environment by being free to raise money through the issue of new equity.

Newcourt's Hudson quits, insisting it's his choice not pressure from CIT
Article Abstract:
Steven Hudson has announced that he is retiring as chief executive officer of Newcourt Credit Group Inc, a company he formed in 1984. Hudson said that he wants to devote more time to his family, his charitable organizations and his job as chairman for the executive committee for Toronto's bid for the 2008 Olympics. Newcourt has recently announced a deal to be acquired by CIT Group Inc of New York.
