Increased business activity in New York City is beginning to show indications of revival in the hotel and restaurant industries, resulting in higher tax revenue for the city and decreased unemployment for its residents. The City Comptroller reported a 0.3% annualized gain in the gross city product in October, the first in 10 months. September and Ocotber showed a gain of 11,100 jobs.

New Yorkers Can't Beat Death, But Data Says They're Gaining
Article Abstract:
New York City has reported a decline in the number of annual deaths with only 60,000 in the five boroughs in 2002. Other interesting facts that emerged included AIDS as the leading cause of death among Hispanic and black males. Suicides were higher in Manhattan than in any other borough. The data was released in the Summary of Vital Statistics for 2003.
