Panel wants mandatory Canadian films on TV
Article Abstract:
The feature-film advisory committee has recommended to Canadian Heritage Film Minister Sheila Copps to require public and private television broadcasters to reserve prime times for Canadian movies. The committee has also recommended the reduction of the overall numbers of hours each week of obligatory Canadian programming if the movies are shown during prime time. In addition, the committee has proposed incentives to show more ads for Canadian film releases.

Tax proposed on films distributed in Canada

The 13-member film policy committee has recommended to Heritage Minister Sheila Copps the implementation of a new tax on films and videos distributed in Canada. The committee also proposed the creation of a C$150-million Feature Film Fund, the abolition of tax credits for foreign filmmakers, and to require television broadcasters to show Canadian films in prime time.
