Child labor is prevalent in West African countries such as Benin and Togo, and it is believed that approximately 40% of children under the age of 14 are sent out to work. When the Nigerian ferry, MV Etireno, carrying 200 "child slaves" to Gabon, was captured, there was great confusion as to whether the children were there willingly or not.
