Prozac: wonder drug
Article Abstract:
Prozac was considered to be one of the most effective and safest treatments for depression at the time of its introduction in 1988. It was hailed as a wonder drug as it did not have any side effects associated with other anti-depressant drugs. Subsequent research showed that Prozac caused certain side-effects in almost 15% of users. In a spate of lawsuits that followed, it was alleged that Prozac causes suicidal behavior. However, the link between Prozac and suicide has not been established beyond doubt. Psychiatrists continue to hold Prozac in high esteem and use it as front-line treatment for a section of patients suffering from depression.

Indoor air pollution
Article Abstract:
Indoor air is often two to five time more polluted than outdoor air, and air contaminants such as smoke and radon are associated with numerous health problems. Poor building design and filtration systems, as well as sloppy housekeeping, can lead to pollution problems, including dust mites, which have been implicated in increases in the number of people with asthma. Experts are debating the merits of imposing strict indoor air pollution rules, but many of the relationships between indoor air and health are unproven, especially claims about radon's effect on people.

Prevalence of Alzheimer's
Article Abstract:
The country was jolted in Nov 1989 when researchers from Boston, MA, came up with results that showed that the incidence of Alzheimer's disease in the US was much more widespread than originally believed. The study indicated that 10% of old people in East Boston were sufferers. As a consequence, the original estimate of two million victims on a national scale was raised to more than four million. This figure is estimated to be growing considering that the 85-years-and-above age bracket has registered the fastest growth among all other age segments.
