Quebec wants airline 'guarantees'
Article Abstract:
The proposed merger of Canadian Airlines International Ltd with Air Canada continues to face impediments as the Quebec government threatens to block the consolidation unless it receives guarantees on employment, routes and the use of the French language on the airlines. Onex is planning a hostile C$1.8-billion takeover bid to merge the two airlines and has already gained support from Canadian and its major investor. In the meantime, other provinces could consider to impose actions similar to that of Quebec to protect themselves from the airline-merger conflict.
