Rebels with a cause
Article Abstract:
Young working Indonesians support the 1998 student revolts against the government. Merchants who once looked forward to a middle-class life are having trouble earning enough money for food. Businesses have closed. Indonesians under 30 years of age, who make up more than 50% of the Indonesian population, are upset at corruption in the government and high unemployment rates. A cultural gap between old and younger Indonesians also fuels resentment.

Article Abstract:
This article describes the making of the film "Anna and the King," a nonmusical remake of the 1956 movie "The King and I." Relevant points include the efforts toward historical realism in the new film, the work of co-stars Jodie Foster and Chow Yun-Fat, and the need to make the film in Malaysia, rather than in Thailand where it is set, due to Thai objections to the film.
