The controversies over disparities between results in the popular vote and the Electoral College are typical of earlier crises, although voting in the 19th century had no resemblance to modern methods. Secret voting became a rule in the late 19th century and the crises such rule perpetrated during the course of the continuous evolution of The US electoral system are recounted.

Slow Food Movement: Subsidy reform
Article Abstract:
The American Farmland Trust has proposed shifting billions of dollars in existing subsidies for farmers into "green payments" for environment friendly farming practices, an action they hope would represent significant improvement in farm policy. Budget deficits and poor backing by the slow food movement may however mar the proposal.
