Why Everybody's Talking About 'Just-In-Time'
Article Abstract:
Just-in-Time (JIT) is a philosophy and system that targets inventory as a major problem to manufacturers. JIT's goal is elimination of waste, measured by how much or little inventory is present. Automobile makers are especially benefitting from JIT. Other manufacturers are using the zero inventory production system (ZIPS), a variation of the Japanese JIT system. At present JIT can only be effectively used in major corporations, since it works best in a repetitive manufacturing situation. Several examples are detailed of companies successfully using these systems. The concepts are revolutionizing industry.

Sicilian idyll
Article Abstract:
Sicily is one of the few places in Europe unspoiled by mass tourism. Palermo, the capital, contains structures dating to the third century AD. Other structures near Palermo include temples, theaters and altars from the 5th century BC. Travelers should be sure to include the Spanish cities built at the end of the 17th century and Taormina, but avoid the Aeolian Islands.
