The ability to provide quality as perceived by the customer determines business success or failure. Studies show that financial performance is directly affected by the perceived quality of a firm's products or services. Experts estimate that poor quality costs businesses about 10% to 30% of gross sales. Because of its importance, the US Department of Commerce considers the pursuit of world-class quality a top priority. It continues to give out the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award to promote quality consciousness among American businesses. "Doctoring" Doctors and Their Families
Article Abstract:
A neurologist with over 40 years of experience provides advice to doctors who must treat another doctor. Many physicians are uncomfortable as patients and find it difficult to reverse roles. They may consider illness as a weakness and have a hard time asking for help. Doctors should assure their colleagues that they will be treated like any other patient. Try to allay the doctor-patient's anxiety and discuss all plans and decisions in detail. Allow time for discussion but do not identify too closely with the patient.
