Article Abstract:
This article presents indications that the market for smart cards in Australia is likely to grow in the near future. Relevant points include the embedding within credit-card sized smart cards of programmable microprocessor chips that allow them to store and process information in three forms: disposable, reloadable, and multiple purpose. Despite their uses as electronic purses and for personal identification, Australian businesses have been slow to accept smart cards.

Information service managers have been know to be male, detail-oriented, and lacking customer service and social skills. However, they are being replaced by younger, business minded, service-driven, people-oriented, and skilled communicators. Increasingly, many are females who enjoy information service careers that is on a fast track. Most are hired because of their management or business skills.
