Sun Life poised to win licence in

Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada is likely to be granted licence to market insurance in China in a move that bolsters Chinese effort to join the World Trade Organization. The granting of license to Sun Life would be announced in mid-Apr 1999 to coincide with the scheduled visit of Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji in Canada. Presently, Manufacturers Life Insurance Co is the lone Canadian insurance firm allowed to sell policies in China.

OSC floats new rules for private placements
Article Abstract:
The Ontario Securities Commission has proposed a new set of guidelines for private placements. The new rules will make it easier for owners of small enterprises to solicit capital from friends and family. The new guidelines will permit big firms to get financing from sophisticated investors without going through the complicated and costly process of issuing a prospectus.
