Trilon boosts dividend

Trilon Financial Corp. of Toronto, Ontario, will take advantage of robust earnings with profits rising by 29% to $44 million during the third quarter of 1998 to improve its quarterly dividend by 20% to 12 cents per share. Trilon Financial president and chief executive officer George Myhal noted that the firm's earnings have risen for every quarter of 1998. The company, which surprised analysts with its latest performance, posted just $34 million in profits in 1997. Financial services firms are currently experiencing falling profits due to erratic financial markets.

Clearnet launches PCS roaming service

Clearnet Communications Inc., a Toronto, Ontario-based company that provides digital personal communication services (PCS), has partnered with thee US-based PCS operators to introduce automatic roaming service. The new service allows Clearnet customers, which currently use more costly manual roaming, to use their portable PCS telephones in the US without operator assistance and added fees. The three US firms include Sprint PCS of Kansas City, MO, PrimeCo Personal Communications LP of Dallas, TX, and WirelessNorth of Plymouth, MN.
