The Feds v. Microsoft

The Department of Justice and 20 US states are suing Microsoft for illegal practices to retain its monopoly. Microsoft is accused of tying its Internet Explorer to the Windows program to oust Netscape competition. It is expected that Microsoft will appeal a negative verdict and that the case will be settled in the Supreme Court. Information about some of the key players on both sides are included.

AT&T appeared to be defeated after its monopoly was broken up in the 1980s, but after acquiring cable company TCI, Ma Bell is becoming a force in the telecommunications industry. C. Michael Armstrong, AT&T's new chairman, announced a joint venture with Time Warner that would allow his firm to use the coaxial cables in 12 million homes for telephone service.
