Article Abstract:
Australian artists face the social stigma of having a job that many people do not appreciate, value or reward financially. The Australian government is conducting a federal enquiry into why this stigma prevails, why artists earn only approximately AS$15,000 per annum, why it is so difficult to attach value to art and evaluate it for tax purposes, and why there is no public pressure for the government to support artists.
