Violent crime has reached crisis levels in the US. There are more than 10,000 murders of strangers each year, and 80% are not solved. At least 500,000 additional police officers are needed by the year 2000 to restore a secure society.

The AIDS exception: privacy vs. public health

Concerns about civil rights and privacy have exempted AIDS from the traditional public health procedures of routine testing, reporting and notification. A more systematic approach should be employed to control the epidemic.
