The impact of centering first-level predictors on individual and contextual effects in multilevel data analysis
Article Abstract:
The method of separating organizational-level effects from individual-level effects and the effect of first-level centering decisions on the interpretation of second-level coefficients are discussed. The second level coefficients provide correct estimates of the individual effect and the contextual effect when the contextual predictor is included in the second-level model for the grand-mean-centered and uncentered models.

To transform or not transform skewed data for psychometric analysis: that is the question!
Article Abstract:
Data describing 758 immigrants from the former Soviet Union who completed a Russian language version of the Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R) were used to demonstrate the effects of transformation. The results suggest that data transformation is not always needed or advisable when Cronbach alpha or Pearson product-moment correlation is calculated for instruments with skewed item responses.
