More than 3.6 million outpatient prescriptions were written for Viagra between April and July 1998, resulting in 123 reported deaths. A physician will have a true values challenge in deciding whether to comply with a patient's request for Viagra. Physicians who prescribe Viagra should educate both the patients and their partners about its use.
