Deflating the pessimists
Article Abstract:
Economic pessimists in Europe have come to expect the worst from the slightest sign of economic downturn, despite the fact that they have been at this for 30 years and nothing of any consequence has happened. A tiny drop in national consumer price indices in France and Germany fueled the pessimists again, although the drop was primarily due to price wars in electronic retailing and telecoms. What the pessimist fail to realize is that lower costs will help to make Europe's tepid service sectors more competitive in a global marketplace.
