Nurses working in Canada's healthcare system face tremendous pressures and stressful working conditions. Cutbacks have caused reductions in staff levels and increases in patient loads. The role of nurses has changed with more emphasis on technology and training. Two Halifax hospitals are profiled.

Some researchers believe that the the risk factors associated with a woman over 40 having a baby have been overstated. Although the complication rate tends to be higher among older women, the complications are often associated with factors other than age such as the woman's health.
