This article examines the effect on French Prime Minister Lionel Jospin of tire manufacturer Michelin's decision to layoff 7,500 workers in France even though it has recorded a 20% increase in profits over the same period in 1998. Relevant points include dissatisfaction with Jospin's unwillingness to take action aside from calling on organized labor to protest Michelin's decision.
